Here we go...

It has been a long time since I've posted anything on any blog, but I wanted to get started again. World events, local happenings, family dynamics, my strange sub-continent within the world of motorcycling, and a hundred other things merit examination and reflection. This is where I hope to be doing that. If you've joined me, hello! I don't expect a lot of folks will, but what they hey.\ So who am I? I don't know. I can list some of my life experiences, viewpoints, hobbies, tell you a little about my careers and family though. I'm currently a 44 year old white guy living in the East Bay part of the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a defense attorney working in my own solo law firm. I am also a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve. I was on active duty in the Navy for a bit over four years, three of which were onboard the USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN-69), a nuclear aircraft carrier. I went to law school at the University of Florida and I'm a huge Gator fan.\ I'm a very experienced and avid motorcycle rider. I've ridden a couple hundred thousand miles since I began riding in 1990. I've ridden in two Iron Butt Rallies (11 days, 11,000 miles), including riding to all 48 contiguous states in ten days. I have an amazing wife, and three amazing daughters (a four year old and two year old identical twins). Our house is insane. I am neither conservative nor liberal across the board. I have and enjoy guns, and think you should be allowed to as well. I think the government should keep its nose out of things it has no business with, such as who marries whom, and what choices a woman makes about her pregnancy (within reason). I believe the well being of a child trumps anything and everything in the lives of his or her parents. I think forests and natural resources should be strongly protected and plastic should be banned from packaging and most non-durable goods. I think the welfare state destroys families and handicaps the potential for young people to achieve the greatness of which they are capable. So I'm all over the map and think the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and career professional politcians are horrific things that destroy the potential of this country. So there's a little insight. I've probably offended people already, and that's just fine. I believe the single biggest issue facing us as a people right now is our collective inability to listen to each other and to try to understand each other. Big media and our politicians have polarized us so much that we can't stand anyone who has a different opinion. If you are one of those people, you may be offended by what I might say. And again, that's just fine.
